However, since the Austrian-made pistol is a common issue for the country's law enforcement, it would be difficult to make the Glock appear. Being a user favorite also adds to the problem.
The fastest, cheapest, and easiest way to personalize a gun is to paint the slide. There are several additional methods you can use by following these steps, including using your own stencils.
First, as with any paint job, learn to prepare the gun for the paint job. Start by dismantling the slide, making sure all the attached parts are removed.
Start with the barrel, spring assembly, fuze, spacer sleeve, fuze spring, and spring cups. See step 5 for visuals.

Wash in with 91% (or more) isopropyl alcohol. You can find it at any drugstore and most grocery stores.
Tape the bottom of the slide, especially the grooves on the sides of the rail, to prevent the gun paint from affecting the movement of the slide. This also applies to channels.
Draw the marks well. Even a skilled shooter could not shoot with a blind eye.
Smooth the area slightly to help the paint adhere. This takes a little practice as you don't want to harden the sand too much.

Clean the outer surface of the slide with acetone. You want to remove any sanding dust or your paint job will look dirty.
Heat the slide in the oven at 150°F for 5-10 minutes. The key here is that you don't need a ton of heat, but if you're not sure about your oven settings, make sure you check the thermometer.
Use parkord twine or heavy twine and tie it to the spring hole. Use paracord to hang the slide.
Spray with the paint of your choice. Make sure that you are using a paint that is designed for the top of the gun.

If possible, re-incubate the slide at the same temperature and time as step 7.
After 6-7 coats of paint, let the slide dry for 1-2 hours and remove the tape. Do not use for several days.

That's all there is to painting a Glock slide. All you need is the knowledge to disassemble your Glock, clean the interior to prevent slide problems, and carefully tape the areas that are not part of the paint job.
Painting a gun is an art in itself - there is no rush, but a passion that only shooters can understand. Wipe and enjoy the new look of your Glock!

What I love about the SHOT Show is not the latest and greatest guns and gear I get to see, but the people I meet. During SHOT Show 2016, thanks to my friend Will, I met the guys at MAD Custom Coating, also known as Black Sheep Warrior, Overlord. I'd say we became instant friends after spending the evening together at a great dinner on the Las Vegas Strip. Needless to say, when I found myself wanting a new finish on my Glock 23, I knew where to go.
Now, when I say I need new trim, it's not because the original factory trim is so worn that it needs to be replaced. No, my gun had a new Cerakote™ coating. Unfortunately, it didn't work after I closed my gun at a shop. The local shop put a very thick coating on the inside of the slide so it wouldn't go down to a full battery between shots. It seems that such accidents are not uncommon in the Cerakote ™ application industry, so after a great deal of internal discussion, I contacted my new found friends at MAD Custom Coating.
MAD Custom Coating is a family business that started in 1996, a DBA project of the FAH Group. What started as a training company providing firearms, cross-arms and hand-to-hand combat training to the private sector has since blossomed. Agreements around the world to train the US military to protect against terrorism. The gun wear and tear witnessed at these businesses prompted them to begin testing the now known Cerakote™ ceramic finish. After realizing the superior abrasion and wear protection offered by Cerakote™, FAH Group decided to expand its business. In 2010, FAH Group began offering coating services to the public under the MAD Custom Coating banner.
So, back to my story, I sent my Glock to MCC and chose the red and black "battle beaten" finish. This hard finish gives a very wearable look in the fashion of popular furniture painting jobs. I chose red and black because those are the colors used by my company Comprehensive Fighting Systems. Not only was the new cover art amazing, but MCC decided to surprise me with something and included the CFS logo in the program. Nice touch if I say so.

How about this work? After I received my gun I took it to the range and to my surprise the gun performed well! (Well, I'm not really surprised. I expected it.) MCC not only kept my gun safe, but did a great job covering it as well.
So if you are thinking of wearing your gun, don't give it to anyone. The guys at MAD Custom Coating know what they are doing and will do your gun right. They are also the nicest people you will meet if you get the chance. If you're not ready to close and want to see the amazing work they do from time to time, follow them on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, or Pinterest. It's like candy on your eyes.
I'm sorry, but I have to fix this bombshell post! The guys at Mad Custom coating are great friends of mine and I have come to appreciate their character and friendship over the years. Thank you
